Who Is Sukma?

The greatest mystery of the story is a witch named Sukma.

Years ago, Sukma lived in that village and believed herself to be the daughter of the River Goddess. To attain immortality and acquire god-like powers, she began murdering the villagers.

When the villagers discovered her crimes, they captured and imprisoned her, and there she died. However, her soul did not perish.

Now, Sukma seeks to return to life, and to achieve this, she is gathering the souls of those who carry the blood of the Bajing Jowo village within their bodies.

Abdul's Shocking Secret

In the final act of the film, it is revealed that Abdul—the servant at Respati's house—is actually Sukma's son.

For years, Abdul has been concealing his mother's corpse and attempting to bring her back to life with the aid of black magic.

It was also Abdul who supplied the mysterious oil that transported Respati into the realm of dreams.

In other words, the true human villain behind the entire story was Abdul.

Ending Explained

In the climax, Respati and his friends embark on two separate missions.

Respati battles Sukma in the Dream World, while Wulan and Tirta set out to locate Sukma's physical body in the real world.

Eventually, they discover Sukma's lifeless remains and set them ablaze.

As Sukma's body burns, his spirit begins to weaken.

Seizing this opportunity, Respati severs Sukma's head in the Dream World, and his spirit is destroyed forever.

Subsequently, Respati also rescues his grandfather's spirit, bringing an end to the series of mysterious deaths.

Post Credit Scene Explained

After the film ends, an intriguing post-credits scene is shown.

Respati's therapist sits beside his deceased wife and begins singing the same demonic lullaby that Sukma used to sing.

He claims that he will bring his wife back to life.

This scene serves as a clear indication that a sequel to this story may be released in the future.

Final Review

Soul Reaper is a distinct kind of Indonesian horror film that does not rely solely on ghosts and spirits. The movie skillfully blends elements of a dream world, supernatural powers, dark fantasy, and emotional drama.

The final battle between Respati and Sukma is the most entertaining part of the film. Although the CGI feels weak in certain places, the story and concept keep the audience engaged until the very end.

If you enjoy dream-based horror movies, this film is a must-watch.
